Smith & Boston was established as a family business in July 2005. The directors Cherry Hill, Ngaio Bell and Olive Hill saw a need for a different approach to special-occasion wear.

Sisters Ngaio & Olive worked with input from Cherry and other women to create a range of garments that would enhance the wardrobes of women who appreciate classical styles, quality fabrics and a choice of colours.

Olive & Ngaio source their own luxury fabrics, including pure silks, linens, cottons and exquisite laces. They design every item of the range and all the garments are proudly manufactured in Canterbury NZ by another local business that specialises in boutique garment sewing.

Olive, Ngaio and Cherry know that personal service is the most important aspect of running a retail boutique. Smith & Boston’s customer interaction and level of service has resulted in their well deserved reputation as ‘the place to shop for special-occasion wear’.

Customers at Smith & Boston receive friendly service in a calm and welcoming environment. Ngaio & Olive work in the boutique alongside their valued staff members LeeAnne Wilson and Lesley Court.

Ngaio & Olive are proud that Smith & Boston is a business that is run by women, for women and that is supports local industry. They look forward to meeting you and assisting you with your next special occasion look.

The story behind the name

For the curious, the label’s name; ‘Smith & Boston’ comes from the combined maiden names of Olive and Ngaio’s maternal grandmother (Doreen Smith) and great grandmother (Flora May Boston) who lived in Prebbleton Village not far from the Smith & Boston boutique. The Smith & Boston boutique is located in the village shops on Springs Road.
